The Science curriculum in Bukit View is designed to inculcate students with relevant knowledge, skills and values through meaningful and engaging learning experiences.
Our department aim to:
- cultivate student’s perception of Science as a collective effort and a way of thinking rather than just a body of facts;
- engage students in Science-related issues that concern their lives the society and the environment; and
- help students develop the domains that are integral to the conduct of Science inquiry.
We will achieve that by:
- teaching Science as inquiry;
- allowing students, through inquiry, to acquire knowledge and understanding of their natural and physical world based on their own investigations, apply the skills and processes of inquiry and develop attitude and values that are essential to the practice of Science; and
- nurturing students who enjoy Science and value science as an important tool in helping them explore their natural and physical world.
Students should be able to
- use scientific skills in everyday life,
- make informed decisions related to Science and technology,
- engage in meaningful scientific discourse with others e.g. social and moral issues related to advances in Science,
- contribute to the progress of Science knowledge e.g. working with scientists on research projects,
- understand the place of humanity in the natural world,
- demonstrate care and concern for the environment,
- have an open mind and value science as an important tool in helping them explore their natural and physical world.

- Sec 2N(A) students can offer O-Level Science in Sec 3
- Sec 2E students can offer the following combinations in Sec 3:
- triple Science (pure Physics, pure Chemistry and pure Biology)
- double Science (pure Physics and pure Chemistry; or pure Chemistry and pure Biology)
- Science (Physics, Chemistry) as a single subject

Applied Learning Programme (ALP)
With globalisation and rapid technological advancements, we are moving into a new phase of development as a nation where the emphasis is on learning throughout life. The ALP has been initiated to better prepare students to meet the demands of this new phase. With an emphasis on the application of thinking skills, connecting knowledge across subject disciplines and applying these in real-life settings, ALPs help every student appreciate the relevance and value of what they learn in class. This will provide stronger motivation and purpose to acquire knowledge and skills. Our ALP is a collaboration with STEM Inc. which is the educational unit of the Singapore Science Centre.

Thinking HATS (High Ability Talent in Science) Programme
This talent development programme is developed based on the E2K (Singapore) Science curriculum in collaboration with Gifted Education Branch (GEB), MOE to stretch the ability of our high achievers in Science.
The programme aims to:
- develop skills for scientific inquiry,
- encourage creative and critical thinking,
- use engaging storylines and scenarios to provide authentic context for the mastery of scientific concepts, and
- promote collaboration and discussions in teams.
STEM Overseas Learning Trip to Hong Kong
This study trips aim to provide our pupils with the opportunities to:
- generate greater awareness and interest in the fields of Science, Technology (Computing), Engineering and Mathematics.
- develop a global mindset in students by helping them to understand how STEM education is developing in other countries around the world and how Singapore can continue to stay relevant in this area of development.
- extend pupils’ learning and experiences beyond the classroom by arranging for them to interact with local students and develop in our students the 21st century competencies of global awareness and cross-cultural skills and sensitivities.
21 Secondary Two and Three students and 6 teachers visited Hong Kong (HK) from 10 to 14 June 2018 to deepen their learning in the fields of Science, Technology (Computing), Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) and the Environment. 3 teachers also presented a paper at the HK Computational Thinking and Education International Conference 2018. The trip was an enriching and eye-opening learning experience for the students.
The department has planned a suite of strategies to help students attain subject mastery in Science and to handle national examinations.

|SINGAPORE JUNIOR BIOLOGY OLYMPIAD 2018|
|Sherman Chann Zhi Shen of 4E1 achieved our first-ever Gold award at the Singapore Junior Biology Olympiad (SJBO) 2018.
In addition, Kim Eo Jin of 3E1 obtained an Honourable Mention while 28 others received their Certificates of Participation.

|The school improved on their performance at the Singapore Junior Chemistry Olympiad 2018 with three students achieving Merit award and reaching the second round of the competition. Another 38 students obtained Certificates of Participation.|

|SINGAPORE JUNIOR WATER PRIZE COMPETITION 2018|
The school won 3rd prize in the Singapore Junior Water Prize this year!
The team of three Sec 3 students, Marvyn Chia (3E1), Yeo Swe Hon (3E1) and Zane Chua (3E1) did us proud in the U-15 category with their ‘BVSS Water Monitoring Device, Version 2 (BVSSWMD V2)’, which allows the public to track their current water usage.
Another U-15 team consisting of Ang Sheng Heng (2E1), Lovell Loh (2E1) and Muhammed Syarifuddin (2E1) was awarded the certificate of participation for their ‘Rubber Cubes Project’ which reduces the rate of evaporation in reservoirs by using rubber cubes to cover the surface of the water, without affecting much of the aquatic life.
The SJWP is organised by the Lien Foundation, Sembcorp Industries and Ngee Ann Polytechnic, and supported by PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency.
