The BVSS ICT Development Framework takes reference from 2 main documents – the MOE ICT Masterplan 3 and the school’s Curriculum Framework.
Code For Fun
Enrichment Programme for Lower Sec
The Code for Fun Enrichment Programme is offered to our students to increase their exposure to coding and computational thinking. The programme includes academic learning of related concepts using visual-based programming language, such as Scratch, and combining it with robotic kits, such as Lego WeDo, MoWay, and microcontrollers, such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi, to create a coding experience for the student. For example, the microbit, a pocket-sized code-able computer with motion detection, a built-in compass and Bluetooth technology, as well as LED lights that can flash messages, is used to facilitate the programme.
Bukit View Secondary School is among 19 secondary schools in Singapore to offer a new O-level subject, Computing, to Secondary Three students as an elective. The subject incorporates techniques and methods for solving problems and advancing knowledge, and introduces a distinctive way of thinking and working that sets it apart from other disciplines.
Computational thinking is core to Computing. We encourage students to recognise aspects of computation in the world that surrounds us, and applying tools and techniques from computing to understand and reason about both natural and artificial systems and processes. Computational thinking allows students to tackle problems, break them down into solvable chunks and devise algorithms to solve them.
Computer Applications (CPA) is a compulsory subject for all Normal Technical students. The curriculum spans four years, from Secondary 1 to Secondary 4, leading to national examinations at the end of Secondary 4.
The lower secondary syllabus focuses on equipping students with fundamental ICT skills that will support learning of the other NT subjects. At the upper secondary levels, the syllabus focuses on higher-order thinking skills. Basic programming concepts and skills will be learnt through simple animation and game design; and eventually, applying them to solve problems in everyday context. All students will be exposed to internet technologies and tools that are readily available e.g. using collaborative tools from Google Apps. Hands-on activities continue to be the main feature of this skill-based subject.
